An antique oiler (Miri is also known as an oil town due to our rich reserves).

The Visitor’s Information Centre in Miri. It is located near the main bus terminal and the tamu (market). It does not occupy a big area, but it is very well kept.
I rarely go there since, well, I don’t usually have any use for visiting the Visitor’s Information Centre, but there are always people around there. I think most of them enjoy waiting for their buses in the area.

It is Hari Raya Puasa for Muslims. Or Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Or Eid ul-Fitr. (Too many languages, too many variations.) Whatever the case, “Selamat Hari Raya” to all celebrating.
Last night, I fell asleep to the sound of fireworks in the distance going off at regular intervals. Close enough to provide nice white noise to lull me to sleep, not so near as to interrupt sleep – a happy medium.
This was the best photo I got. One of my neighbours had a bunch to set off and I carelessly got so caught up in just watching that I forgot to snap photos until they were almost done.
I’m going to miss the Raya season. I always find all the best food during this time of year.

Miri’s beaches have very shallow slopes and the current just off the shore can be quite strong. It makes for nice walks on the beach where you can walk with your feet dipped in the water, but not so nice for certain water-sports where you can’t wear a life jacket.
I really liked this photo with the two birds and the two kids – both hanging out and walking through the water.
