Miri’s beaches have very shallow slopes and the current just off the shore can be quite strong. It makes for nice walks on the beach where you can walk with your feet dipped in the water, but not so nice for certain water-sports where you can’t wear a life jacket.

I really liked this photo with the two birds and the two kids – both hanging out and walking through the water.

Taman Selera jetty

This is the jetty at Taman Selera (one of Miri’s parks located near the beach).

It is not uncommon to find local fishermen fishing off the edge of it or people out there just enjoying the view of the horizon.

Beachside stalls

Food stalls like this are found wherever crowds of people gather – whether it is the beaches, at events or outside schools. They sell a whole range of snacks and drinks that I have yet to find in countries outside of South East Asia.

Sunday Fishing

Sunday Fishers.

I almost forgot that I’m supposed to visit a longhouse in the interior of Sarawak and I won’t be back until the 16th. So, since I will be gone on the 14th and 15th, I’ll post two photos today and two on the 16th when I come back to make up for it.

Sweet Picnic Under The Trees

Known as an oil town for almost a century due to its rich oil reserves, Miri is now trying tap into its other natural wonders and steer towards being a resort city.
